Full Arch Dental Implants

Full Arch Dental Implants provided by Rockton Dental in Rockton, Il

Rendering of full arch dental implantsFor those with tooth loss, a dental restoration is needed. While historically dentures have been the traditional choice, dental implants are a far more appealing solution than dentures.

Unlike dentures, which need to be removed to be cleaned and can slip out of place causing embarrassment for the patient, dental implants are permanently secured. They will not come loose and can be brushed and flossed just like normal teeth. Our team here at Rockton Dental can provide you with full arch dental implants. Schedule an appointment at our location so we can serve you.

How is a Dental Implant Made?

Dental implants are made up of three parts to become your new and permanent, artificial tooth solution. A dental implant consists of the implant, the abutment, and the crown. The implant is surgically embedded into your jawbone. The abutment is then screwed into the implant, of which the third piece, the dental crown, is placed on top. The dental crown is the only visible part of the dental implant.

Dental Implant Placement

Dental implants are a long-lasting tooth replacement option. They can last up to 25 years, confirming they are a permanent and strong tooth replacement choice.

The procedure to have dental implants placed is a process of which can take several months. You typically do not get dental implants installed in just one day. First, you will need a full mouth assessment to determine the amount of tooth loss and what type of dental implant you may need. In addition to full arch dental implants, we also perform single tooth and multiple tooth dental implants. At your initial assessment, we will also discuss any other procedures that may need to be completed in order to perform the dental implant surgery. You may need tooth extractions, a bone graft, or perhaps a root canal before your dental implants can be placed.

Procedure

The next step is to place the dental implants. This could be anywhere from two to eight implants. These will replace your natural tooth roots. Having dental implants helps not only restore your lost teeth, but keeps your jawbone stimulated and healthy. The jawbone begins to break down when there are no teeth to support it. Your dental implants will take several months to fuse with the jawbone. This is a process known as osseointegration.

Once osseointegration has taken place, the abutment and dental crown can be placed. It may take some time for your mouth to fully heal, and for you to get used to your new teeth. With dental implants, you do not need to worry about your teeth slipping around, as you do with dentures. There are no limitations to the foods you can eat either. Dental implants look natural and make it easy to speak naturally again now that you have new teeth.

FAQs

What are full arch dental implants?

Full arch dental implants are a tooth replacement option that uses multiple dental implants to support a complete set of upper or lower replacement teeth. This treatment can help restore chewing function, improve smile appearance, and provide a more stable alternative to traditional removable dentures.

Who is a good candidate for full arch dental implants?

Patients who are missing most or all of their teeth, have failing teeth, or struggle with loose dentures may be candidates for full arch dental implants. At Rockton Dental, our dentists will evaluate your oral health, jawbone support, bite, and overall health before recommending this treatment.

How are full arch dental implants different from traditional dentures?

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and may move while eating or speaking, while full arch implant restorations attach to dental implants placed in the jawbone. This added support can provide greater stability, improved chewing strength, and a more natural feel compared with removable dentures.

What should I expect during a full arch implant consultation?

During a full arch implant consultation, our dental team will review your dental concerns, examine your mouth, take any necessary imaging, and discuss your goals for replacing missing teeth. Rockton Dental will explain whether full arch dental implants are appropriate for your needs and what steps may be involved.

Do full arch dental implants help protect the jawbone?

Yes, dental implants can help stimulate the jawbone in a way that is similar to natural tooth roots. This stimulation may help slow bone loss after teeth are missing and can provide a stronger foundation for a full arch restoration.

How do I care for full arch dental implants?

Full arch dental implants need daily cleaning and routine dental visits to help keep the implants, gums, and restoration healthy. Our dentists will show you how to brush around the restoration and may recommend special cleaning tools to help remove plaque from hard-to-reach areas.
