Single tooth implant in row of teeth.Modern dentistry has led to several great restoration options being more widely available. Our professionals at Rockton Dental utilize this technology to provide you with the best possible outcomes. Our team can provide you with replacement teeth that look and function just like natural teeth. One of our most popular treatment options used to accomplish this goal is dental implants.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are all very similar but are divided into two broad categories: whole mouth implants and single tooth implants. Multiple tooth implants or whole mouth implants can be installed with one of several installation methods. The most common methods are the traditional method and the All-on-4® Treatment Concept.

A single tooth implant involves the placement of a titanium post that is fitted with a dental crown. This crown is color-matched to your surrounding teeth and is most commonly used if you have lost a tooth that is visible when you talk and smile. Single tooth implants may be used to replace teeth that are not visible during normal interactions, but this process is much less common.

Multiple teeth or whole mouth implants are used to replace a group of teeth or your entire smile. They are considered a better alternative to traditional dentures. When using the traditional installation method, a post must be installed for every tooth being replaced. If our team uses the All-on-4 concept, a larger post is installed in each quadrant of your mouth and is designed to support a group of false teeth.

What Is the Procedure?

The placement of dental implants will require multiple office visits. During your initial visit, our team will conduct a thorough oral exam and advanced imaging procedures to gather the information needed to create your implants. They will also assess the health of your jawbone to ensure that your bone density is sufficient to support implants.

If it is not, then you will need a bone graft to strengthen your jaw. A bone graft procedure involves the attachment of bone fragments to your existing bone to rebuild it. This procedure is fairly simple, but you must be provided several months for the fragments to fuse with your jawbone before our team can install the posts.

Once this occurs, you will return for the installation of the titanium posts into your jawbone. You will be provided a temporary set of teeth to wear while your mouth heals from the procedure. After healing is complete, our team will remove the temporary teeth and place your final set of implants on the posts. It can take up to a year or more for all stages of the procedure to be complete.

The dental implant procedure will leave you with a brand-new smile that functions like your natural teeth.
